This is quite a tricky question to answer. Soraka is a support champion in League of Legends and as with all support champions, ‘carrying’ isn’t a term frequented often. That doesn’t however, in any way diminish the role of a support in any aspect. There are a huge number of ways to indirectly carry games as a support.
Role of a support
As a support, your primary role would be to babysit your damage dealer. In the laning phase, the damage dealer is usually the ad carry. You should therefore, try to protect your carry using heals and cc whenever they go off cooldown. When it comes to the teamfighting phase however, this is not usually the case. During teamfights, your main aim would be to protect the most fed player in the team.
Protecting the most fed player may in certain scenarios earn you a barrage of flame but it is essential that you focus on the objective, which is to win the game. Again, there are different ways of protecting the most fed player, you could grant them buffs or straight up become their meat sheild.
Soraka as a support
Soraka is a champion who has an incredible arsenal of heals and buffs at her disposal. Her abilities are as follows :
Soraka runs faster towards nearby low health allies.
A star falls from the sky at the target location dealing magic damage and slowing enemies. If an enemy champion is hit by Starcall, Soraka recovers health and gains movement speed when moving away from enemy champions. Starcall is your only means of reliable damage output in the early game and the health gained back from landing the spell plays a huge role in your survivability in the laning phase.
Soraka sacrifices a portion of her own health to heal another friendly champion. The highlight of the starchild’s kit, her healing is what makes Soraka one of the biggest threats in game. As long as you are alive, your team should be healthy and doing just fine due to this spell. Be careful however as this costs health rather than mana.
Creates a zone at a location that silences all enemies inside. When the zone expires, all enemies still inside are rooted. An ability which serves as a light cc in the laning phase while in teamfights can be the ultimate game changer, silencing entire teams and rooting them briefly. It is a really useful lategame cc that must be used carefully.
Soraka’s ultimate is a universal heal providing all teammates with a set amount of hp when cast. The ability can be used to provide aid to allies when you’re out of reach or when you’re too low to rush in. It can be cast alongside redemption to turn the tables in certain team-fights.
As Soraka your primary rune could be inspiration alongside resolve for a boost in survivability. You could also run sorcery alongside inspiration. Given below is a sample rune page but feel free to improvise!
Your core items would be an ardent censer along with redemption. Build around these items incorporating different items as and when the situation changes. You would want to build items that boost heal power. ( Don’t know what heal power is? Check it out here.) As Soraka you would be focused down first, building items that can extend your survivability in teamfights is worth its weight in gold.
Given below is a list of items that work well with Soraka
- Ardent Censer
- Mikaels Crucible
- Eye of the watchers
- Seraphs Embrace
- Ionian boots of Lucidity
- Eye of Ascension
- Athenes Unholy Grail
